A great Austrian hand-forged scythe manufactured by Franz de Paul Schroeckenfux (Fux Austria, Schröckenfux) since 1540. Choose a blade length in the following sizes: 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85 or 90 cm. The edge of the scythe is resilient and stays sharp for a long time. This also means that it can be hand-peened to produce a fine edge. It is durable yet very light. Thanks to its long history, it perfectly suits the needs of modern ergonomic mowing.

The geometry of this scythe allows for ergonomic mowing in diverse conditions. It is slightly bent in both longitudinal and lateral axes. Longitudinal curve prevents the tip of the scythe from hitting the ground. The scythe glides smoothly, even if the terrain is uneven, without the need to lift it from the ground.

Lateral curve allows cutting the grass stems with minimal friction and prevents the edge from dulling fast.

The mower can comfortably control how much grass will be cut at one stroke. You can use this scythe for truly meditative mowing.

Thanks to top-notch forging technology the scythe is rigid and resilient while maintaining a low weight. This scythe can potentially last multiple generations of mowers.

Produced from high quality steel, it manifests great balance between hardness and resilience. The scythe keeps its edge sharp and it allows for fine peening without the edge cracking.

During our mowing practice and scythe-mowing courses, a great many scythes have passed through our hands. We selected this scythe as the best one the global market can offer. We intentionally abstain from offering a variety of regional models to avoid confusion. Different mowing techniques were used in different regions. The ergonomic mowing technique surpasses most in terms of both comfort and effectiveness. The Fux Hartstahl is the best choice for ergonomic mowing that will suit the needs of 99% of mowers.

How to select the right length of the scythe:

  • Short scythe (60 – 70 cm) is great for mowing in cramped spaces. A short scythe does not require much force and is therefore suitable for mowers with less physical strength. Poorly maintained land is easier to mow with a short scythe.

  • Medium-sized scythe (65 – 75 cm) is used as an all-purpose scythe for common mowing of gardens/orchards or meadows. Here too, it is necessary to consider the mower's physical abilities.

  • Long scythe (75 – 90 cm) is great for cutting larger swathes of relatively flat land. Mowing is faster but requires more strength.

Although new scythe is labelled by the manufacturer as “Ready to mow” (Mähfertig in German), it is not exactly true. Peening of the scythe is required for easy ergonomic mowing. If you opt for the “Hand-peened” choice above, you will receive a scythe which is sharpened as follows: its edge has first the paint removed, its surface is subsequently machined by a water-cooled grinder for consistent thickness, and lastly hand-peened by a specially adjusted hammer in at least 3 passes.
